Horse Industry

Glen Ellen Vocational Academy, Inc. (GEVA inc.)
Founder and president of this nonprofit equine retirement foundation and vocational school. Incorporated and obtained the 501 (c)(3) status for the organization. Designed and constructed the farm's paddock and pasture layout, barn and arena. Manage and operate the farm, rehabilitate and re-school the horses for a second career as show or pleasure horses when possible; otherwise maintain them in a comfortable retirement. Organize and conduct fundraisers.

Steward - California Horse Racing Board
Have worked as steward and associate steward at Northern California tracks since 1988 presiding over Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, Appaloosa, Arabian, Standardbred and mule races. This position requires full knowledge of horse racing law, rules and regulations, track safety, film analysis, evaluation of riding infractions, expert judgment calls and decisions, conducting hearings and meting out penalties, and supervision over all licensees. For this position one must have the necessary experience in the industry to meet the qualifications, pass a written and oral exam, and is then appointed by the State. Continuing education classes are conducted nationally by the University of Louisville and the University of Arizona to
maintain accreditation. Was also approved as steward for the American Hunt & Steeplechase Association.

Horse Identifier
Extensive experience registering foals, which requires photographs and written description of the color and markings on the horses and completing the application papers for The Jockey Club or other breed registry. Also have extensive experience working for sales companies identifying and correcting errors on original registration papers prior to horses selling at auction. Have done identification necessary for blood-typing breeding stallions and mares.

Trainer
Trained a stable of Thoroughbreds for racing primarily in California. Managed all aspects of the
operation including galloping, working, and ponying the horses in training. Was responsible for daily charts, hay, feed and necessary supplements, shoeing schedule, veterinary issues, treating injuries, and all aspects of horse husbandry.

Owner/Breeder
Designed, constructed owned and managed a Thoroughbred breeding farm. Was responsible for purchasing mares, selecting stallions, foaling, sales, and all aspects of raising healthy horses to get to the races. Did basic ground work, handling, breaking and conditioning of young horses.

Private Enterprise - Import and Marketing
Working partner in import marketing company that involved extensive travel to the Orient. Products imported included tack and equine equipment. Work required knowledge of leather, workmanship, safety issues, quality and defects, pricing, contracts, communications, etc.
